Remember how fun it was to cut down demons of various types with just a few swings? Yeah? Well in the “sequel” you get none of that, every single enemy soaks up every single attack even maxed out. Again all attempts to make the game as tedious and repetitive as possible were taken when making SW2. Large amount of enemies isn’t’ the problem, Serious Sam doesn’t really has an issue provided you’re in an arena and the enemies aren’t all Giants and they are all damage sponges. This happens almost 99% of the time during every fight in throughout the entire game without variation, period. There’s also a really bad crafting system that is never worth the effort and an even more in depth advanced crafting system that you have to slog through I think it was 7 trials in order to be able to do something to your weapons but in reality the cost benefit ratio is extremely low for what you need to pay into it.ĭear god the mass enemy spawns and damage sponge enemies, every single engagement is a chore and it’s all the sequel has! Every single fight is you running around getting distance from 20-30+ enemies at a time, most of that time is also spent trying to corral other hordes from different areas that you accidentally "agroed" and are now chasing you along with the original group that you were fighting. In a game like Shadow Warrior they added more stuff to drag the gameplay down to the point where even the act of leveling up your character is a chore. It slows the game down to an almost stand still, in a game about quick movements and properly positioning yourself to slash or stab enemies at the right time. The other half of my play time has been sifting through gems and other useless loot trying to min-max everything. It was a horrible design choice, coop had a proper setup in Gears of War 1 for crying out loud, a game 10 years old yet FWH thinks only host progression is good enough?!ĭear god loot and skill tree is now even more confusing when combined with the horrible “skill gems”. So if you play with a friend, you would progress but his game would not and you would have go back and join his game in order to help him progress. The "Coop" I have not personally done, however based on questions that I've personally made and had answered the coop is a joke, as in the host makes all the progress the players joining said host make ZERO story progression. Your protagonist has degraded in every way he is no longer a mature warrior who learned humility at the end of SW1 and your sidekick is an annoying girl who does nothing but ridicule Wang every second of the game. The story is even worse and the characters have lost ALL of their charm, almost like the writers of the original are not present for the sequel. They had a sure thing with just making improvements to SW1 maybe add some better skill leveling systems or RPG like elements into it but to turn it into a fake open world game that is 100% a clone of Borderlands, bad loot and all just made it an awful experience. the move to basically turning the linier story driven game into an out right Borderlands clone was by far the biggest mistake that FWHs made. SW2 is nothing of the sort, the combat, while "improved", movement, flow, the combos, etc. Couple that with a fairly good combat system, melee that felt good, guns that were utter garbage even max upgrade, and good characters with actual arch’s that tended to complete I felt SW 2013 was a great product. I loved SW1 to death, aside from a few instances of out right frustration due to FWH's love for charging type enemy types and the mass wave "difficulty" crutch it was arguably one of my favorite games in a long time.
